Chelsea legend Frank Lampard, Liverpool's Steven Gerrard, and Paul Scholes of Manchester United are among some of the top midfielders who have played in the Premier League.

A new era of superstars in midfield has cropped up in recent years, with Manchester City maestro Kevin De Bruyne among them.

However, opinion has often been divided on who is currently the best midfielder in the Premier League, with fans and pundits seemingly not finding a middle ground on the subject.

talkSPORT has now ranked the top 10 best midfielders in the division, with some obvious names making the cut.

Let us take a look.

10. James Maddison (Tottenham)

The Englishman made a return to the Premier League last summer following his move to Tottenham from Leicester City.

Maddison has played a key part in Ange Postecoglou's side this season, scoring three goals and bagging six assists.

9. Bruno Guimares (Newcastle United)

Guimares snubbed a move to some of the best clubs, including Arsenal, to join Newcastle in January 2022.

The Brazilian was pivotal in Newcastle's qualification for the Champions League.

8. Alexis Mac Allister (Liverpool)

The 25-year-old has settled into Jurgen Klopp's team in recent weeks following initial struggles.

Mac Allister has been impressive in Fabinho's old No.6 role and has occasionally filled the gap left by Jordan Henderson.

7. Douglas Luiz (Aston Villa)

Douglas Luiz has formed a big part of Aston Villa's unprecedented EPL title charge under Unai Emery.

His spectacular performances have seen him court interest from a number of European clubs.

6. Martin Odegaard (Arsenal)

Odegaard has been an important player for Mikel Arteta since he joined Arsenal from Real Madrid.

Last season, he nearly became the first Arsenal captain to lift the EPL title since Patrick Vieira in 2004.

He scored 15 goals.

5. Bernardo Silva (Manchester City)

Silva is one of the unsung heroes in Man City's current team set-up.

The Portuguese was integral last season, helping the club win a historic tremble.

4. Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United)

It is almost difficult to imagine where Manchester United would be without Bruno Fernandes.

The Portuguese has become an instant fan favourite since his arrival from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020.

Bruno has scored 71 goals in over 200 appearances for the Red Devils.

3. Declan Rice (Arsenal)

The Englishman was the subject of a transfer battle pitting Arsenal and Liverpool in the summer of 2022.

And it goes without saying why the two clubs were keen to sign the former West Ham United star.

2. Rodri (Manchester City)

Like Bernardo Silva, Rodri is also an unsung hero in City's team.

Rodri has formed a perfect midfield with Kevin De Bruyne at the Etihad.

1. Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City)

And finally, on the list is none other than Kevin De Bruyne.

The Belgian is currently one of the best midfielders in the world, if not the best.

De Bruyne recently surpassed Wayne Rooney to climb to third on the all-time Premier League assists list.

According to the Premier League, the midfielder has bagged 104 assists in the division.

De Bruyne leaves Burnley defence in tatters

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on De Bruyne's piece of skill that left the Burnley defence flat-footed during their EPL meeting.

It almost looked like De Bruyne would cross the ball in the box, but he instead picked Alvarez with a perfectly weighted ground pass, with the young striker getting the job done.
