The football association is set to introduce a new card colour that could be implemented as early as next season.

The move is reportedly set to be officially announced on Friday by the International Football Association Board (IFAB), the body in charge of adopting and passing new football laws.

IFAB will also reportedly announce the introduction of the blue card, which will be used on a trial basis alongside the sin bins set to be introduced to football as well.

What the blue cards will be used for

The lawmakers want to crack down on dissent and part of the plans is to send players away for 10 minutes with the referees brandishing the blue cards.

As Sports Brief previously reported, the sin bin is popularly used in rugby. It is a bench where all players who have committed a yellow card offence sit out of the game for 10 minutes.

The cards will be shown to players who commit cynical fouls or show dissent. If a player gets two blue cards, they will be sent off. If the player gets the blue card and a yellow card in a single game, they will also be sent off.

The Telegraph reports that the roll-out of the card will be first on a trial basis, which essentially means that main leagues would be exempted at the start.

The report states that the FA Cup matches could be used for trials. If the trials are successful, the card could be adopted officially as a part of the rules.

Biggest VAR victims this season

Sports Brief has also reported on the biggest VAR victims this season, with Liverpool leading the pack. Jurgen Klopp's charges have been undone by the most decisions, along with Brighton and Wolves.

The standout case of the season was when Luis Diaz's goal against Tottenham Hotspur was wrongly chalked off for offside on September 30 last year. The Merseysiders went on to lose the game 2-1.
