  • Benson Omalla will leave Gor Mahia for Algerian club JS Saoura
  • Gor Mahia striker has reportedly agreed on a six-month loan deal
  • The deal sees JS Saoura agreeing to pay a loan fee of Ksh3.3 million

Gor Mahia's leading striker, Benson Omalla, is poised to embark on a six-month loan journey with Algerian club Jeunesse Sportive de la Saoura, commonly known as JS Saoura.

Contrary to previous unverified rumours linking Omala to USM Alger, K’Ogalo dismissed such speculations, affirming their star player's commitment to the team.

Head coach Johnathan McKinstry also confirmed the club had not received any official offer from USM Alger, stressing no official contact had been made with the player or the club regarding the potential transfer.

After a remarkable 2022/23 season with 26 goals in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League, Omala was previously linked to clubs within and outside Africa, including South African powerhouses Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, and Tanzanian champions Yanga.

However, all signs indicate Omala's imminent move to North Africa.

According to Mozzart Sport, JS Saoura has officially presented their offer for the player, and the perennial Kenyan champions have reportedly accepted it. The proposed six-month loan sees JS Saoura agreeing to pay a loan fee of Ksh3.3 million.

Omalla, in return, will receive a monthly remuneration of KES 1.3 million net. The loan fees will be disbursed to Gor Mahia once Omala is released from K’Ogalo’s system.

An alumnus of football powerhouse Kisumu Day, Omalla began his top-flight career with Western Stima in 2020 while still a secondary school student. After a brief stint with Swedish club Linkoping FC in 2021, he returned to Gor Mahia. The 2022-23 season showcased his prowess, netting 26 times, second only to Elvis Rupia.

Having made his national team debut against Seychelles in November, Omala addressed recent rumours linking him to USM Alger.

"It is still a rumour. They have still not submitted their official offer,” said Omalla, as quoted by The Good Company KE podcast.

Despite the speculation, he remained prominent, even starting last month in the recent league match against Kariobangi Sharks.
