  • Wolverhampton Wanderers completed a double over Chelsea on Sunday
  • Matheus Cunha scored a hat-trick in the 4-2 win for Gary O’Neil’s Wolves
  • Cunha is one of four visiting players to net a hat-trick at Stamford Bridge

Wolves forward, Matheus Cunha, established himself among the Premier League elite with his treble of goals against Chelsea on Sunday, February 4.

The Blues hit a new low as they were outperformed by the visitors, who emerged 4-2 winners in a frustrating night for manager, Mauricio Pochettino.

Cunha, meanwhile, had a match to remember as he scored a hat-trick to help his side come from behind to secure all three points.

Cole Palmer gave Chelsea a lead which only lasted three minutes as Wolves equalised after a deflection off Thiago Silva.

The turnaround was completed before half-time as Rayan Ait-Nouri’s shot was also deflected into the net, with Cunha getting his second of the day in the second half.

His hat-trick was sealed from the penalty spot in the 82nd minute, with Chelsea getting a consolation goal late on through their veteran defender, Silva.

Players to score hat-tricks at Stamford Bridge

Not many players can say they have achieved a hat-trick as a Stamford Bridge visitor. However, Cunha is the proud owner of this stat and has joined three other players to have achieved this feat, per Opta.

Former Arsenal and Super Eagles of Nigeria forward, Nwankwo Kanu, was the first to manage this in 1999 when he bagged a treble during the Gunners' thrilling 3-2 win over the Blues in the London derby.

The next player to hit this milestone was Robin Van Persie in 2011. The Dutchman’s goals helped Arsene Wenger’s mighty Arsenal side to a 5-3 win.

Argentine legend, Sergio Aguero also hit a treble at Stamford Bridge for Manchester City on April 16, 2016, in a 3-0 win for the Citizens, per Sky Sports.

Pochettino says Chelsea are not good enough

Meanwhile, as Sports Brief previously reported, Pochettino admitted Chelsea were 'not good enough' after their defeat against Wolves.

The struggling Argentine admitted his side did a poor job managing the game as the defeat at Stamford Bridge left them in 11th on the log.

"We didn't manage the situation properly and no-one can be safe... We are all responsible," said the embattled manager.
