  • Moises Caicedo went from hero to zero against Wolves on Sunday, February 4
  • The Ecuadoran got his first assist but made a mistake moments later
  • Chelsea lost their lead as a result of the mistake from midfield

Moises Caicedo went from joy to despair in a matter of minutes during Chelsea’s Premier League clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday, February 4.

The 22-year-old got his first assist for his team, but instantly cancelled out his efforts with a mistake in midfield to hand Wolves the equaliser.

For his side's opener, Caicedo brilliantly fed the ball to Cole Palmer, who continued his fine form with a neat finish.

However, moments later, the £115million man was at fault for his team’s concession of a goal as he had his pockets picked in midfield by Joao Gomes, who fed the ball to Matheus Cunha and the Brazilian’s shot deflected off Thiago Silva and into the net.

It got worse for Caicedo, as he was guilty of not picking up the run of Algeria attacker Rayan Ait-Nouri who easily squared the ball into the Chelsea box for Axel Disasi to score an own goal.

How the rest of the game went

Having gone into the break trailing 2-1, Chelsea were dealt a sucker punch by Cunha, who got his second goal of the game after some brilliant work from Pedro Neto.

The in-form Cunha then wrapped up a perfect evening for himself by slotting from the penalty spot after being brought down by Chelsea’s Malo Gusto.

Thiago Silva scored a late consolation for the Blues, whose second successive Premier League defeat led to boos ringing out at the Bridge.

Defeat leaves Mauricio Pochettino’s side in the bottom half of the table, seven points behind Manchester United, who occupy the final European places.

Chelsea made Caicedo the third most expensive player in history when they signed him from Brighton in the summer.

There was a lot of hype around the Ecuadorian when he signed for the Blues, particularly because of his price tag. Some skeptics felt the figure was too high for a player who had only made 53 appearances in major European Leagues.

Since then, Caicedo has been an integral figure in Mauricio Pochettino’s side, playing in 27 of the 30 games for the Blues this season, according to TalkSport.

Raheem Sterling booed by fans

In related news, one Chelsea player felt the wrath of fans after the defeat to Wolves at home.

As Sports Brief reported, Sterling had an evening to forget and was hauled off and replaced by Mykhailo Mudryk in the 72nd minute, and his withdrawal was met with jeers from frustrated fans.
