Mamelodi Sundowns senior coach Manqoba Mngqithi has reacted to South Africa's victory over Morocco in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations Round of 16.

Bafana Bafana booked a place in the quarter-final after their 2-0 win over the Atlas Lions on Tuesday (January 30).

Evidence Makgopa scored Hugo Broos' side's first goal of the match before Sundowns midfielder Teboho Mokoena sealed the victory with an added-time free-kick.

During an interview with SABC1, as per iDiskiTimes, Mngqithi showered praises on the South African team for knocking out the 2022 World Cup semi-finalist.

"We did say from the beginning of the tournament that maybe this one is not for the North Africans," he said.
"Indeed, we showed today by taking out the number one team on the African continent, and we spoke very early in this match to do believe.
"It's not the time to be doubting; it's time to trust and support our team, which has delivered."

South Africa's performance in the Round 16 surprised many due to the team's performance in the first game in the tournament.

The former African champions lost their first match against Mali 2-0 in the group stages before thrashing Namibia's Brave Warriors 4-0 in their second group game.

A goalless draw in their last group game against the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia sealed a place in the Round 16.

With Bafana Bafana's win over Morocco, they will face the Blue Sharks of Cape Verde in the last eight.

Sport Brief also reported on Premier Soccer League club, Kaizer Chief sending a congratulatory message to Bafana Bafana after beating Morocco in AFCON 2023.

The AmaKhosi took to their official X handle to congratulate Hugo Broos' men after qualifying for the next round.
