Taking to social media, Speed, who is a Cristiano Ronaldo superfan, showed love for SA during the game, encouraging them to beat Morocco for Ronaldo.

Why Speed wanted South Africa to win

As a proud fan of CR7, Speed was not impressed with The Atlas Lions after they beat Portugal in the FIFA World Cup.

Per EuroSport, Youssef En-Nesyri scored the only goal of the game as Morocco knocked CR7’s side out of the tournament at the quarter-final stage.

Moroccan fans mocked the Portuguese superstar after the game, bragging that they had kept him quiet.

Speed hasn’t forgiven the African side for that game and was eager to see them suffer some form of retribution.

Bafana pay tribute to Cristiano Ronaldo

Speed got his wish as Hugo Broos’ men beat Morocco to progress to the quarter-finals of AFCON. Goals from Orlando Pirates' Evidence Makgopa and Mamelodi Sundowns' Teboho Mokoena gave the South African side a memorable win.

They will now face Cape Verde in the next round of the tournament, looking to book their place in the semi-finals.

They also paid tribute to Speed’s icon Ronaldo during the game. Following Mokoena’s freekick, which sealed the win, Bafana’s players performed one of Ronaldo’s iconic celebrations.

Pitso Mosimane praises Bafana star after win

Sports Brief reported how Pitso Mosimane was full of praise for Mokoena after the midfielder's performance against Morocco.

The Mamelodi Sundowns star scored the game's second goal as South Africa dumped the Atlas Lions out of the tournament.

Mokoena was named Man of the Match and earned high praise from the former Masandawana boss for his influence in the game.
