Mac Allister wants Liverpool to make their mark, Arsenal eye revival
FootballKlopp vs Pochettino: Last Time Liverpool vs Chelsea Produced Winner in Normal Time
- The last seven meetings between Liverpool and Chelsea have ended in draws
- Liverpool, however, beat Chelsea twice on penalties in the Carabao and FA Cups
- Jurgen Klopp and Mauricio Pochettino met at the start of the season in London
It has been dubbed as the derby of draws. Stalemates if you like. Chelsea will make the trip to Merseyside on Wednesday, January 31, to face Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp continues his final cruise in the Anfield hot seat.
The German boss recently announced that he will be leaving at the end of this season after a glorious nine-year spell that saw him win it all in England.
Klopp to leave Liverpool this season
Captain Virgil Van Dijk has declared that the players, despite being devastated, will be fired up to win every title to give a perfect sendoff to their manager.
"We still have a lot of targets to achieve this year, and why not finish the season on a high and together with celebrations for the boss as well?" he told the club's website.
Can they begin this by finally beating Chelsea in a Premier League clash for the first time since 2020? The last seven games between these two sides have ended in stalemates, though Liverpool did edge their opponents twice in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup on post-match penalties in 2022.
They meet again in the 2024 Carabao Cup final on February 25, by the way.
Last time Chelsea vs Liverpool had a winner
The last time this game produced a winner was on March 4, 2021, when a Mason Mount strike at Anfield earned Thomas Tuchel's full points at Anfield.
Football was yet to return to normalcy after the COVID-19 pandemic, with the game being played behind closed doors. Van Dijk missed that game after picking up an ACL injury earlier in the season.
Chelsea hit Middlesbrough for six to reach League Cup final
FootballIt gets interesting; only Ben Chilwell is still a Chelsea player in the travelling squad that Tuchel took to Merseyside. Liverpool has also seen a couple of players leave, most notably Sadio Mane, Fabinho and Firmino.
After that result, the two sides played to a two-all thriller at Stamford Bridge the following season before meeting in the cup finals, which ended goalless in normal and extra-time before Liverpool triumphed on penalties.
Afterwards, they recorded two back-to-back goalless draws in the Premier League, with Bruno Saltor taking charge of one of the games after Graham Potter had been sacked in March last year.
Klopp and Pochettino, the two managers who will renew their rivalries, met in the first game of this season. A fast start from Liverpool was rewarded by a Luis Diaz goal, but Chelsea fought back, with Alex Disasi getting his first goal for his new side.
They meet again. Will we have a winner in this time?

FootballPochettino keen on victory at Anfield
Sports Brief has also reported that Pochettino has insisted that his side will head to Anfield keen on getting a win despite Klopp's recent announcement.
The Argentine manager admitted that Liverpool players will be up to the task of giving their manager a proper send-off but promised to do his opposite numbers no favours.
