Senegal midfielder, Lamine Camara, had to be carried into the dressing room following the defeat to Cote d'Ivoire in the last 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations.
The FC Metz youngster, who had a good tournament, started for the Teranga Lions before he was replaced in the 87th minute as the AFCON host forced the game into extra time.
Habib Diallo opened the scoring for Senegal after finishing off a Sadio Mane assist, but second-half substitute Franck Kessie scored late to level for Cote d'Ivoire.
The Saudi-based star went on to score the winner in the shootout after Moussa Niakhate had missed for Senegal.
In a video shared on social media, a visibly distraught Camara broke into uncontrollable tears as his teammates tried to console the 20-year-old. Teammate Cheikhou Kouyate had to lift him to the dressing room.
Camara was selected for the tournament in Cote d'Ivoire after an outstanding year for the various national teams of Senegal. He led the U20 team to AFCON U20 success in 2023 before adding the CHAN championship title to his accolades for last year.
He earned a move to France, where he joined FC Metz and was later named CAF's Young Player of the Year, as reported by beIN Sports.
Camara could leave Metz in the winter transfer window following an impressive tournament.
