  • Thomas Tuchel was in the news for his comment about working in Spain
  • Fans speculated he was auditioning to replace Xavi Hernandez at Barcelona
  • The German club have claimed their manager's words were taken out of context

Thomas Tuchel got some hopes up and probably riled his current employers with his comments about working in Spain, which appeared to be perfectly timed.

Xavi Hernandez announced he will leave Barcelona at the end of the season last week, and speculations are already flying in the media about a potential replacement.

He was not the only manager to announce he would leave his club. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp announced he will leave the Premier League club at the end of the season after nine years in charge.

The two announcements are already shaking up the seats of many managers, and there is set to be a massive transfer of coaches in the summer; more than some clubs will sign players.

Bayern clarifies Tuchel’s statement

Per Mirror UK, the German boss spoke about working in Spain during a fan event at the weekend, and many took it to mean he is putting himself out to be snapped up by Barcelona.

“Spain has an extraordinary league. From my perspective, and based on my experience working with Spaniards, they are characterised by a tremendous amount of self-confidence. When you speak with Spanish players, I quickly get the sense that you are engaging with the person,” he said.

The club was forced to release an official statement after reports in the media started growing that Tuchel would be on his way out of Munich in the summer.

“He also answered general questions from fans about Spain as a footballing country. He never spoke about Xavi Hernández and his successor, as was falsely claimed afterwards,” a part of the statement reads.

Per Goal, fans linking him with a move away have a point, as there are reported clashes between the manager and the hierarchy at the club.

Sports Brief reported on Mikel Arteta denying Barcelona links after a report emerged over the weekend that he had informed his entourage of his desire to leave Arsenal.

Arteta, a product of Barcelona’s famous academy La Masia, is one of the names linked to the vacant position at the Catalonia club in the summer.
