Angola’s fairytale run at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations has impressed Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman following their qualification to the quarterfinals of the competition.

According to Complete Sports, Lookman, who has labelled Angola as a tough team to break down, assured Nigerians that the Super Eagles will be ready for the challenge on Friday.

“Angola are a good team. We’ll analyse them and prepare. The further you go, the tougher it gets, so we’ll take it game by game.”

Lookman, who is playing in his first tournament with Nigeria, scored both goals as the Super Eagles defeated Cameroon 2-0 in the Round of 16 to book a spot in the final eight.

Jose Peseiro focused on Angola

Meanwhile, coach Jose Peseiro says all focus is now on Angola as the Super Eagles prepare to take on the Black Antelopes in the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final tie on Friday, February 2, All Africa reports.

Peseiro is cautious ahead of the fixture, urging his players not to underestimate the Black Antelopes even though they have been billed as favourites to win the crunch encounter.

Nigeria and Angola's quarterfinal clash is scheduled for the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium on Friday, 2 February, at 6 pm local time.

Goncalves impressed with Super Eagles stars

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Angola coach Pedro Goncalves identified Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman as the two standout players of the Super Eagles in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations.

The Portuguese coach did vote for Osimhen as one of the greatest players at the FIFA awards, placing him behind Manchester City's Erling Haaland and compatriot Bernardo Silva.

Osimhen has scored one goal for Nigeria at the AFCON while Lookman scored both goals as the Super Eagles brushed past arch-rivals Cameroon 2-0 in the Round of 16.
