  • Ruben Amorim has put top clubs on red alert after claiming he could leave Sporting
  • The Portuguese claimed he will leave Lisbon if they fail to win the title this season
  • Chelsea and Liverpool are two of the clubs who have previously sounded him out

There is set to be a managerial merry-go-round in the summer work; top managers are already out of work or set to be free agents in the summer of 2024.

Jurgen Klopp and Xavi Hernandez are confirmed to be leaving their positions at Liverpool and Barcelona after announcing their departures at the end of the season.

Per Record Portugal, Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim threw himself into the mix after claiming he would leave if the club failed to win the title – a three-horse race between Sporting, Benfica and Porto.

Sports Brief looks at five clubs that could sign him if he quits his current role.

Clubs that could hire Amorim

1. Chelsea

Mauricio Pochettino’s job at Stamford Bridge is safe at the moment, but openings in the summer could lead to a decision over his future. He could be asked to leave if he loses the Carabao Cup final to Liverpool and fails to make the top four. Per Daily Express, Todd Boehly contacted Amorim twice before hiring the Argentine manager.

2. Liverpool

The Reds fans have been going through it since Klopp announced he will leave Anfield. Former midfielder Xabi Alonso is one of the early frontrunners, but per Sport Witness, they also have Amorim, who has a release clause of £17million, on their radar.

3. Barcelona

The Blaugrana have not decided on their next manager after club legend Xavi announced he would vacate the managerial seat by the end of the season. Amorim, nicknamed the young Jose Mourinho, could be one of the names that could be considered in the meantime.

4. Bayer Leverkusen

Per 90min, Bayern Munich and Liverpool are eyeing Alonso. He was also on the radar of Real Madrid before Carlo Ancelotti extended his contract. If Alonso leaves, the German club could make a move at the 39-year-old Portuguese boss.

5. Brighton

The Seagulls look very likely to lose Roberto De Zerbi this summer, with top European clubs, including Italian clubs, eyeing him. The Europa League side could try their luck on the former Sporting player, who would be open to manage in England.

Carragher names preferred Klopp’s successor

Sports Brief reported on Jamie Carragher naming his preferred successor to Klopp after the German manager shockingly announced he would leave Anfield at the end of the current season.

The 2005 UEFA Champions League winner named his former team and Leverkusen boss Alonso as his preferred candidate to take over in the dugout at Merseyside.
