Super Eagles manager Jose Peseiro has given an update about Stanley Nwabili's injury ahead of Nigeria's quarter-final tie at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Chippa United goalkeeper was injured in Nigeria's 2-0 win over Cameroon in the Round of 16 on Saturday evening.

The Nigerian international collided with Cameroon forward Georges-Kevin N'KoudouN'Koudou and couldn't continue with the game.

Francis Uzoho eventually replaced him after being unable to continue after treatment.

After the game, Peseiro claimed the Super Eagles medical team are yet to assess the extent of Nwabili's injury. Still, he hopes the Chippa United goalkeeper will feature for Nigeria in the quarter-finals.

"We will assess the state of Stanley Nwabali'sNwabali's injury in the next 24 to 48 hours. It was difficult to determine his condition while we were in the match," he said.
"But I hope he will be fit for the next match… I want him to play. And the players want him to play."

Nigeria will face the Palancas Negras of Angola in the last eight but might feature in the tie without their starting goalkeeper, Nwabili.

Uzoho might be the option in goal for the Super Eagles against the Black Sable Antelopes next month.

Nigeria's match against Angola is scheduled for Friday, February 2, at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium, according to a report by Soccerway.

Rigobert Song sends message to Nigeria

Sports Brief earlier reported that Cameroon's coach, Rigobert Song, has claimed the Indomitable Lions were not worried about the threats posed by Victor Osimhen.

The former Liverpool defender asserted that his side would stick to their game plan regardless of the threat posed by the Napoli star.

Despite Song's confidence, Nigeria went on to secure a 2-0 victory against the five-time African champions.
