  • The knockout round of the Africa Cup of Nations is on the horizon
  • The Super Eagles are poised to face the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon
  • Coach Rigobert Song has sent a defiant message regarding forward Osimhen

The build-up to the enthralling 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) knockout tie between Nigeria and the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon continues to take shape.

Both parties involved have been talking tough ahead of what will be a renewal of the long-standing rivalry between the West African neighbours at the Cup of Nations.

The rivalry, which dates as far back as the 1960s, have always been known to leave fans and stakeholders at the edge of their seats through the duration of the fixture, and the 2023 AFCON edition set for the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny looks set to be another enthralling instalment.

As the excitement builds, Cameroon's manager, Rigobert Song, has conveyed a resolute message to the Super Eagles, particularly emphasising the challenge posed by their prominent offensive threat, Victor Osimhen.

Song sends message to Nigeria

In the final press conference ahead of the crucial clash, the 47-year-old, who won the Cup of Nations against Nigeria in the 2000 edition, stressed his confidence in his team and their ability to tame the Confederations of African Football (CAF) Player of the Year.

As reported by Brila.net, he stated:

“Osimhen is the best in Africa.”
“We know him and respect him. But that doesn’t mean that we should fear him.”

The two-time AFCON champion further outlined his team's approach to the game, saying,

"We are focused on playing without getting mixed in emotions. Our emphasis is on applying our philosophy and technique to secure a victory. We cannot allow ourselves to be overly concerned about a football game."
He added, "We will enter this match with confidence, and the desired outcome will follow."

The Cameroonian coach's words exude a palpable sense of assurance, particularly considering Osimhen's influential role in Nigeria's AFCON success thus far.

Nevertheless, it is crucial to note that the manager's remarks contribute an additional layer of intrigue to what is already shaping up to be an exciting clash. Both teams are poised to give their all on the field.

What Nigeria must do to defeat Cameroon

Sports Brief in a separate report stressed the key things the Super Eagles of Nigeria must do to avoid defeat against Cameroon.

Nigeria are set for another challenging encounter against the Rigbobert Song’s team, who are determined to seek revenge.

Nigeria will rely on its defensive strength as an important factor in securing the much-needed victory.
