According to SPORTbible, United decided against permanently parting ways with the youngster despite previously facing a number of charges, including abuse.

The United academy graduate has gone on to make his mark at Getafe, scoring five goals and assisting four in 19 appearances for the Spanish club.

While he is expected to return to Old Trafford at the end of the season, Greenwood continues to be linked with a permanent exit.

Metro UK reports that the Englishman has asked his agent to help him seal a 'dream' move to Barcelona.

It is understood that the Catalan club are among the top teams eyeing the services of the 22-year-old.

However, Greenwood would not be the first player to play for both the Red Devils and Barcelona.

Sports Brief takes a look at five other players who turned out for both clubs.

5. Henrik Larsson

The former Swedish footballer joined Manchester United in 2007 on loan from Helsingborg.

His move to Old Trafford came a year after he had left Barcelona, where he spent close to three years.

4. Jordi Cruyff

Jordi, son of Dutch legend Johan Cruyff, started his football career at Barcelona, scoring 11 goals for the senior team between 1994 and 1996.

However, in 1996, he dumped the Spanish giants to seal a move to Man United, where he spent close to five years.

3. Laurent Blanc

The French legend played for Barcelona between 1996 and 1997 before he returned to France to join Marseille.

He later joined United in 2001 after a stint in Italy with Inter Milan.

2. Mark Hughes

The Manchester United icon started his career at the club in 1978 before he made his senior debut in 1980.

The former striker joined Barcelona in 1986 before making an emotional return to Old Trafford in 1988.

His second stint at United was more successful, with the Englishman making over 200 appearances for the Premier League giants.

1. Gerard Pique

Finally on this list is Gerard Pique.

A La Masia graduate, Pique spent four years with the Red Devils before he returned to Barcelona in 2008.

He formed a key part of Barcelona's dominance under Pep Guardiola, winning multiple titles with the club, including three Champions League crowns.

Man United's stance on Greenwood

Meanwhile, Sports Brief earlier reported that Man United’s stance on Greenwood remains unchanged, and the forward will almost certainly leave Old Trafford in the summer.

The Red Devils seem to have moved on from the striker, having signed Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund in the summer to bolster their attack as they struggle for consistency.
