  • Nigeria ended their 2023 AFCON group with a 1-0 win over Guinea-Bissau
  • Opa Sangante's own goal in the first half was enough to give Nigeria a win
  • Super Eagles fans are happy at qualifying but less so with the performance

Nigeria comfortably beat Guinea-Bissau to secure their place in the Round of 16 in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Super Eagles' only goal came from an own goal from Opa Sangante in the 36th minute, which was enough to give the three-time winners maximum points.

The Super Eagles dominated the match and should have scored more goals. Poor finishing and intervention by the VAR prevented Nigeria from adding to their tally.

African Player of the Year, Victor Osimhen had a few chances to score but failed to convert them. Nigeria now need to sit and wait to learn their opponent in the last 16.

They finish second in Group A with seven points behind Equatorial Guinea on goal difference. Nzalang Nacional hammered hosts Ivory Coast 4-0 in the other Group A game, per the BBC.

"Good thing we managed a goal cos how do we not whoop this guys 4 goals. Anyway onto the next. The cup is coming home."

@Amossoya1 was not pleased:

@bright___r expressed concern:

"We Won but I’m not impressed. Y’all should do better and btw that ref shouldn’t officiate a match again."

@dareynow said:

"We can’t score in open play? This won’t fly oh! Let’s do better please!!! C’mon Eagles." 🦅

@mm_muhd summed it up well:

"Frustrating performance but a win is a win, now it’s do or die🔥🇳🇬🦅."
