"Fun to watch. An interesting, impressive, matured and disciplined performance put up by Cote D'ivoire vs Guinea Bissau to win 2-0. Guinea Bissau are definitely not write-offs. #CAN2023"

"Big start for hosts Ivory Coast against Guinea Bissau in the opening game of #AFCON2023. Will the Super Eagles be able to withstand their firepower on Thursday? They first have to get through Equatorial Guinea tomorrow. Big games coming up."

@ColinUdoh said:

"Hosts CIV open #Afcon2023 with a 2-0 win despite something of a performance of torpor."

@iAmDanielDadzie said:

"Cote d’Ivoire makes an impressive start to the tournament. 2 great goals in the opener. Hoping to see more goals in the coming games!!! #AFCON2023."

@kwazibruce said:

"So, the Côte d'Ivoire team was earlier captained by someone with an Akan name, Frank Kesse, he really held the midfield for the Elephants. But the Ivorians were too comfortable in the match against Guinea Bissau, or were they saving their energy for the Super Eagles? #AFCON2023."

Ivory Coast will face the Super Eagles of Nigeria in their second game of the tournament on Thursday, January 18.

Ronaldo's teammate scores AFCON 2023 first goal

Sports Brief earlier reported on Cristiano Ronaldo's teammate at Al-Nassr, Seko Fofana, scoring the first goal of the AFCON 2023 after just four minutes of play.

The former RC Lens midfielder pounced a pass from Al Ahli star Franck Kessie to curl a beautiful strike past Guinea-Bissau goalkeeper Ouparine Djoco.
