  • Sports Brief looks at the preview, head-to-head, possible lineups, and prediction

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will continue their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations campaign as they face the Djurtus of Guinea-Bissau in their final Group A game.

The three-time champions got their groove back in their last game against the host nation, Ivory Coast, after playing out a 1-1 draw in their first game against Equatorial Guinea.

The Djurtus, on the contrary, find themselves in a reversed situation, having lost both of their games in the competition thus far.

With the final group game ready to kick off, Sports Brief takes a look at the preview and predictions of the clash between Nigeria and Guinea-Bissau.

Guinea-Bissau vs Nigeria - Preview

Nigeria started their AFCON 2023 on a bad note as they struggled to get past Equatorial Guinea at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan on Sunday, January 14. Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen, scored a quick equaliser after Iban Salvador initially gave the National Thunder the lead in the 36th minute.

Jose Peseiro's side bounced back in their second game in the competition as they defeated the host nation 1-0 with a goal scored by former Watford defender, William Troost-Ekong.

The win put the Super Eagles on four points and are second in Group A, with Equatorial Guinea leading the group with goal difference.

However, Guinea-Bissau are languishing in fourth place in the group standings after losing their first two games against the Elephants and the National Thunder.

A win for the Djurtus against the Super Eagles could still earn them a place in the next round among the best losers, while a draw or a loss will automatically knock them out of the competition.

Guinea-Bissau vs Nigeria - Head-to-head

Nigeria have won two of their last three games against Guinea-Bissau, with the Djurtus also getting a win, according to a report by Livescores.

In the last Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, Nigeria faced Guinea-Bissau in the group stage and claimed all three points with a 2-0 win.

The last game between both sides ended with a 1-0 win for the Super Eagles.

Guinea-Bissau vs Nigeria - Predictions

Guinea-Bissau will hold on to the tiny faith of still qualifying for the next round if they get a good result against Nigeria in the last game. Still, the Super Eagles need a win or a draw to seal qualification to the next round.

A win for the three-time African champions could save them from facing another top side in the competition.

Nigeria are favourites to win the tie due to the quality of players in their squad as they currently parade the CAF Footballer of the Year.

Drogba backs Nigeria for AFCON glory

Sports Brief earlier reported on Chelsea legend Didier Drogba backing Nigeria to go far in AFCON 2023.

The former Ivorian international claimed the Super Eagles have the quality to win the competition and still had faith in his own nation to advance to the second round.
