  • The Cameroon FA has denied a bust-up with Samuel Eto’o and Rigobert Song
  • The Indomitable Lions risk an early elimination from AFCON 2023
  • Cameroon have one point from their first two games in Group C

Cameroon’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign has been plagued with controversies, leading the country’s football association (FECAFOOT) to issue a statement concerning the rumours about the team.

Rumours circulated in the media that FA president Samuel Eto’o and Cameroon manager Rigobert Song had clashed after the Indomitable Lions lost 3-1 to Senegal in their Group C encounter on Friday, January 19.

According to Graphic Online, FECAFOOT Secretary-General Blaise Djounang specifically rebutted the rumours of a conflict between the pair, labelling them as crudely crafted fake news.

Djounang claims rumours such as the potential to destabilise the Cameroon national team and called for supporters of the five-time AFCON champions to be more vigilant about misleading content.

Cameroon must win their final Group C match against Gambia to stand a chance of qualifying for the Round of 16 as Rigobert Song faces pressure to perform as manager of the Indomitable Lions.

Andre Onana has disrespected Cameroon

Meanwhile, former Arsenal and Togo striker Emmanuel Adebayor has slammed Andre Onana and claims the Manchester United goalkeeper has disrespected Cameroon, GOAL reports.

Adebayor slammed the 24-year-old for acting the way he did after joining the Indomitable Lions camp on the day of their first AFCON opening game against Guinea.

Onana would later be sidelined for the fixture by manager Rigobert Song, sparking a reaction from the goalkeeper, who appeared to be furious for not being selected for the AFCON game despite flying on a private jet to join the team in Ivory Coast.

Onana offers teammate freekick advice

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Andre Onana thrilled spectators when he went the entire length of the pitch to give freekick advise to a teammate during the present Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

The goalkeeper missed their first game, a 1–1 draw against Guinea, after arriving late from England due to his decision to stay for Manchester United's Premier League game against Tottenham Hotspur on January 14.

He failed to inspire the five-time African champions to their first win over the Lions of Teranga, as Senegal won comfortably 3-1.
