The Super Eagles will kick off their AFCON 2023 campaign against Equatorial Guinea on January 14 before further group games against host Ivory Coast and Guinea Bissau.

In a viral video online, the players - led by Osimhen and Chukwueze - were spotted singing along to popular musician, Duncan Mighty’s hit song Dance for Me on the team’s bus.

Nigeria, listed as one of the favourites for the tournament, are aiming to win the AFCON for a fourth time after previously winning the competition in 1980, 1994 and 2013.

Nigeria has quality to win

Meanwhile, Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa has backed the Super Eagles to challenge for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations due to the quality available in the current squad, Complete Sports reports.

Nigeria suffered a setback in their preparations for the AFCON after suffering a surprise 2-0 defeat to Guinea in a friendly game on Monday, January 8, the team’s only test game before the competition.

The Super Eagles have also lost key players, Wilfred Ndidi and Victor Boniface, while Kelechi Iheanacho is still battling with his fitness and appears less and less likely to not make the trip to Ivory Coast.

Osimhen to lead AFCON charge

Sports Brief previously reported that Nigeria's Victor Osimhen is confident that his country can end their lengthy wait for a fourth continental title.

Nigeria have not won AFCON since 2013 when Steven Keshi coached the West Africans to a victory over Burkina Faso in the final with a score of 1-0.

Osimhen expressed confidence in the abilities of the current crop of national team players and challenged them to compete for the coveted cup.
