Roma fans made their true feelings towards Jose Mourinho public as they displayed banners in the club’s first game since the Portuguese tactician was sacked.

Mourinho was given his marching orders on January 17 after a string of poor results that left Roma in ninth place in the Serie A.

His last game in charge of the club was a 3-1 defeat to AC Milan, a result that ultimately sealed his fate.

The former Chelsea man was replaced by Roma club legend Danielle de Rossi, who has been tasked with steadying the ship.

Rossi’s first game in charge was a Serie A game against Hellas Verona, which his side won 2-1 courtesy of goals by Romelu Lukaku and Lorenzo Pellegrini, per ESPN.

Despite the win, it seems a large section of Roma fans is still coming to terms with the departure of Mourinho, who was with the club for two and a half years.

At the Stadio Olimpico, several banners were spotted with Mourinho-themed messages, most slamming the club’s decision to sack the former Chelsea tactician.

According to Roma Press, one of the banners read, “Mou, One of us”, while another had a parting gratitude message to the departed manager:

It read: “The only one to defend us, the last one to surrender. Thank you, Jose,” and “Few of us have represented us the way you did. Every Romanista will be grateful to you for that.”

Another noticeable banner summed up how Roma fans felt about Mourinho, as it read, “You defended our Roma and led us to victory. Jose Mourinho in eternal glory!”

In truth, it is not that hard to see why Roma fans grew so fond of Mourinho.
