  • Birmingham City sacked Wayne Rooney after 15 games in charge
  • He led the team to only two wins, dropping from 5th to 20th on the log
  • His former Manchester United teammate is tipping him for a better future

Wayne Rooney may have been deservedly dismissed by Birmingham City for poor results, but his former Manchester United teammate believes the future is bright.

Rooney took over Birmingham in October following the sacking of John Eustace, and he made the team worse than he met them, such that the owners must be feeling bad about their decisions.

Eustace left the team in 5th position with 18 points from 11 games, and by the end of Rooney’s tenure, they were down to 20th, picking up an additional 10 points from 15 games.

He previously had unsuccessful spells at Derby County in the Championship and DC United in Major League Soccer. His coaching career has been underwhelming.

Berbatov tips Rooney for Man Utd job

Every legendary player who goes into coaching dreams of managing their former clubs. At United, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Michael Carrick have recently had that honour.

Former Red Dimitar Berbatov is tipping the Everton-born Rooney to fulfil this dream in future.

“It’s a pity. I sympathise with him because I know he wants to be a manager, and one day maybe he'll be manager of Man United - I still stick to that,” he told Betfair via Mirror UK.
“His time at Birmingham shows every footballer who’d like to go into management that even if you’re a big name, it can’t save you from the sack.”

Berbatov was critical of Rooney’s records at the club and said it was hard to defend such a result, but his conclusion echoed in the same voice as the farewell message by the 38-year-old, who claimed he was not given enough time by the club to oversee the needed changes.

Ferdinand warned Rooney about Birmingham

Sports Brief reported Rio Ferdinand’s warning to Rooney after the Championship club appointed him in October.

Ferdinand claimed he told his former mate it would be a difficult job, replacing a fan-favourite manager who was getting results, and it happened exactly as he said.
