FootballJose Mourinho's Comments on Tanguy Ndombele Resufrace After Latest Video of Midfielder Goes Viral
- Jose Mourinho was spot on with his take on Tanguy Ndombele
- The former Spurs boss criticized the midfielder over his work ethic
- Ndombele went viral on Friday after a recent video of the midfielder surfaced
Jose Mourinho appears to have been spot on with his take on Tanguy Ndombele’s career with comments from back in 2021.
The 27-year old midfielder’s career has taken a strange turn since leaving the North Londoners on loan, and he currently plies his trade in Turkey with Galatasaray.
Galatasaray is the midfielder’s fourth club in four years, as his struggles to get his career back on track continue.
This has not been helped by a video which went viral on Friday, January 18, which highlighted the plight that is currently facing Tottenham’s £65million acquisition.
The footage was from a cup match against Umraniye, and it showed Ndombele in a stocky build struggling to run around the pitch.
If the video is anything to go by, the midfielder looked like a shadow of his former self, and it was evident his physique had changed from the time Spurs signed him from Lyon.
What Mourinho said about Ndombele
Once again, it appears The Special One was right about a superstar he once managed.
Mourinho has been on record predicting the potential downfalls of big names like Dele Alli and Eden Hazard, and in 2021, he made interesting comments suggesting Ndombele was headed down the wrong path.
"Tanguy, I have to be honest, Tanguy is the kind of guy who you always expect more than what he gives you, because he is so talented that you always expect more," Mourinho said in 2021, per Football London.
"More because the talent is amazing. You know I think by the talent point of view, by the creation in midfield, by the vision, he is second to nobody at this moment in European football.

Football"But the feeling is always that he has something more to give. He never reaches the limits of the effort, the sacrifice, even the ambition.
At the time, the Portuguese gaffer earned some criticism for apparently calling out his own player publicly, but years on, his comments make a bit more sense.
Ndombele became Tottenham’s record signing when he was bought from Lyon in 2019 but after a promising start, he lost his place in the starting XI.
He was subsequently loaned back to Lyon, and had a brief spell with Napoli before settling in Turkey, where his struggles have continued.
Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou raised concern over Ndombele’s fitness at the start of the season, as he claimed the midfielder was among the players who were 'a little bit physically behind the rest as well you know'.
According to Transfermarkt, Ndombele has played just 345 minutes of football this season.
