For four years, she was the starting goalie for the Anoka High School Tornadoes. Her performance was crucial to their 1989 Minnesota State Championship, which they won in a shootout. Despite Scurry's participation in track, floor hockey, and softball during high school, her true passion was always basketball.

Club career

Scurry played a crucial role in forming the first women's professional soccer league, the Women's United Soccer Association (USA), with the Atlanta Beat. She started in goal for all three league seasons (2001–2003). She was named the WUSA Goalkeeper of the Year in 2003 and helped the Beat reach two WUSA Championship Games.

For the 2009–10 Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) season, Briana was included in the Washington Freedom’s preseason roster on March 13. Later that year, on September 8, she announced her retirement after suffering a season-ending concussion early in the 2010 season.

  • Between 1994 and 2008, Scurry set a record with 173 caps as a goalkeeper for the US women's national soccer team. While playing internationally, she started 159 games and amassed a record of 133-12-14. And she had 71 shutouts to her name.
