She wasn't in the city's Stade Laurent Pokou as a fan but as a commentator and analyst.

The 35-year-old made history after becoming the first woman to commentate an AFCON game. Fans on social media showered her with praise after hearing her voice on their television.

Dlamini, popularly known as Toki, retired with 105 caps for Banyana Banyana. She played in two Women's Africa Cup of Nations and finished third in 2010 and third in 2012.

"I knew it was the biggest day of my life to do a Men’s CAF Africa Cup of Nations. When I was told I will be commentating at AFCON, I was very overwhelmed but had to try keep calm. I didn’t want it to get to my head because of how emotional the feeling was. I’m hoping this historic moment opens more doors for many other women to believe in their abilities and talents," she told CAF.

Dlamini also recalled watching Bafana Bafana lift their only AFCON title in 1996 on home soil, but this isn't her first detour into commentary. She is an experienced analyst in South African and African football.

She was one of the analysts for the 2022 Women's AFCON in Morocco, per SAFA. Moreover, she was part of the SuperSport analysis team for the 2022 World Cup alongside Jay-Jay Okocha and Asamoah Gyan.

Super Falcons beat Banya Banyana

Sports Brief also reported on Nigeria's Super Falcons beating Banyana Banyana and three other teams to emerge as the best women's team of 2023.

Other women's national teams nominated for the award were Morocco, Senegal, South Africa, and Zambia in a year when women's football came to the fore.

At the 2023 Women's World Cup, the Super Falcons did not lose any game in regulation time before exiting in the second round via penalties against England.

Banyana Banyana drops in FIFA rankings

Sports Brief also previously reported on Banyana Banyana dropping down seven spots in the FIFA global women's ranking last month.

South Africa's 2023 high was a 3-2 win over 14th-ranked Italy, but defeat against the 156th-ranked Malawi dented their positioning.

As a result, Banyana dropped seven spots from number 45 to 52 in the latest FIFA rankings. Desiree Ellis' side won the 2022 AFCON.
