Football'Iconic Frustration': Drogba Watches as Nigeria Outshines Ivory Coast at AFCON 2023, Video
- Didier Drogba was left frustrated watching Ivory Coast lose to Nigeria
- The Ivorian legend was on the sidelines to cheer on his home country
- Ivory Coast are now third in Group A with three points from two games
If Didier Drogba could have laced up his boots one more time and entered the pitch, he would have, judging by his look while watching Ivory Coast lose to Nigeria in their second game at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Elephants, who had initially won their first game against Guinea-Bissau, lacked ideas against the Super Eagles and hardly troubled the opposition goal as they succumbed to a 1-0 defeat in front of the home fans.
Drogba, who had initially met mentee and Super Eagles top striker, Victor Osimhen, according to LEGIT, was among the over 45,000 spectators present to witness his home team fall to a defeat.
A William Troost-Ekong penalty in the second half would eventually seal a win for the Super Eagles, but not before a frustrated Drogba paced on the sidelines, watching as his country fell apart.
Ivory Coast have dropped to third in Group A with three points and risk an early elimination from the AFCON if the hosts fail to get a point against Equatorial Guinea in their final group game.
Drogba’s Osimhen meeting sparks reactions
Meanwhile, Chelsea fans are in dreamland already after watching their legend, Drogba link up with Super Eagles star, Osimhen before the Nigeria versus Ivory Coast clash on Thursday, Talk Sport reports.
The Blues fans believe the 25-year-old Nigerian forward could be heading to the Premier League, and Stamford Bridge could be his destination following his meeting with the Ivorian legend.
Osimhen has been strongly linked with the Blues, with the Premier League giants reportedly considering tabling an offer for the Napoli striker this winter or in next summer’s transfer window.
