  • Host nation Ivory Coast and Nigeria are battling it out in Group A
  • The Super Eagles were welcomed to a hostile environment by the hosts
  • Legend Didier Drogba was seen with Victor Osimhen in the tunnel

Didier Drogba was in the tunnel to welcome the Super Eagles of Nigeria ahead of their crunch Group A encounter against host country Ivory Coast.

Nigeria and Ivory Coast are scheduled for the second game of match day two in their group after Equatorial Guinea beat Guinea Bissau 4-2 in the first game.

The host won their opening game 2-0 against Guinea Bissau, while the Super Eagles drew their first game against Equatorial Guinea, with Victor Osimhen getting on the scoresheet.

A win will ensure Cote d'Ivoire's progress to the knockout stage while it will ease pressure on the Super Eagles going into their third group game against Guinea Bissau.

Drogba and Osimhen share moment

The Super Eagles arrived late at the Stade Olympique Alassane Ouattara, reportedly due to the traffic in Abidjan, and immediately headed for warmups.

As seen in a video shared by Bein Sport, Ivorian legend Drogba was seen sharing a moment with Osimhen in the tunnel as the players head to the pitch for their warmup.

The Napoli striker has cited the former Chelsea striker as one of his inspirations and even acknowledged him during his acceptance speech after winning the 2023 African Footballer of the Year award.

The government of Ivory Coast declared a public holiday today to allow its citizens to go to the stadium and get behind the team in a bid to defeat Nigeria.

The first half of the game ended 0-0 with both sides seeing big chances and failing to convert. Nigerians will be furious at Osimhen for not taking his chances in the first half.
