  • The ex-Ghana captain starred in several games against Egypt
  • The Black Stars Egypt in a blockbuster tie on Thursday

Asamoah Gyan's latest activity on social media seems to have given fans of the national team hope ahead of the crucial Africa Cup of Nations clash against Egypt.

The former Black Stars captain has been following the Black Stars since he retired from football last year.

The 37-year-old is currently in Cote d'Ivoire for ambassadorial work and could be at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium for the Group B headliner.

Ahead of Thursday's encounter, a video of Ghana's famous 6-1 thrashing of the Pharaohs was shared on social media as a reminder of what the Black Stars can do.

Gyan quickly took to X (formerly Twitter) to react by posting an emoji, signifying something positive could come out of today's game.

The former Sunderland star scored twice as Ghana humbled the seven-time African champions in the final round of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers for Brazil, as reported by the GFA's official website.

The Black Stars got off to a poor start at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations after losing 2-1 to Cape Verde on Sunday night.

Ghanaian fans pray for Black Stars

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that fans of Ghana held a prayer session in Cote d'Ivoire for the national team ahead of their crucial Africa Cup of Nations game against Egypt.

The West African giants lost their opening match to Cape Verde last Sunday and desperately need a win to revive their chances of progressing to the next stage of the competition.

The Black Stars have struggled in recent times and have not won a game at the tournament since 2019.

Cape Verde beat Ghana in Group B opener

Sports Brief also reported that Garry Rodrigues scored a late winner as Cape Verde surprised Ghana with an opening-day victory over the four-time African champions in their Group B opener.

Cape Verde got off to a bright start after Jamiro Monteiro gave them an early lead, but the Black Stars levelled after the break through Fenerbache defender, Alexander Djiku.

The result now sees Cape Verde on top of the group after Egypt shared the spoils with Mozambique in the group's other game.
