Real Madrid legend, Sergio Ramos continues to defy the odds despite entering the sunset years of his spectacular football career.

The Spaniard is currently in the books of La Liga side, Sevilla, who he rejoined in the summer, 18 years after his exit.

According to Goal, Ramos made the emotional return to the Europa League champions on a free transfer.

Despite the club's ongoing struggles, the former Spain international has been a mainstay figure in the team and has made some crucial contributions.

He was among the goal-scorers during Sevilla's 3-1 win over Getafe on Tuesday night in the Copa del Rey.

Ramos scored the opening goal in the eighth minute before Isaac Romero Bernal netted a brace to inspire the Andalusians to victory.

That goal extended Ramos' tally to 138 goals and has him sitting fifth among the highest-scoring defenders in history.

According to GiveMeSports, the majority of the defender's goals came during his illustrious career with Real Madrid, where he netted 101 times.

He went on to score six times for Paris Saint-Germain and 23 times for the Spanish national team.

Who are the highest goal-scoring defenders?

Despite Ramos' impressive haul, he has some work to do before he can catch up with Ronald Koeman, who is the highest-scoring defender in history.

The Dutchman has an eyewatering 253 goals to his name, with 90 of those coming during his successful career as a Barcelona player.

Koeman scored 63 times for PSV Eindhoven, 31 for Ajax, Groningen (33), Feyenoord (22), and the Netherlands (14).

Italian legend, Daniel Passarella sits second in the charts with 175 goals to his name, while Fernando Hierro of Spain ranks third with 163 goals.

France icon, Laurent Blanc is fourth with 153 goals, 80 of which came during his spell with Montpellier.
