FootballMohamed Salah: Cesc Fabregas Explains Why AFCON 2023 Star Failed at Chelsea
- Mohamed Salah had an unsuccessful time as a Chelsea player
- He has now become one of the league's best stars at Liverpool
- A former teammate has explained why Salah failed at Chelsea
Mohamed Salah did not have a successful time at Chelsea, and his former teammate, Cesc Fabregas has shed light on why he thinks the winger failed at the club.
During the Roman Abramovich era, the Blues were ruthless in the transfer market and wasted no time replacing players who failed to click or moving them into the robust loan army.
Two of the club’s biggest regrets would be letting Salah and Kevin De Bruyne depart early, both of whom became big stars at rival clubs, Liverpool and Manchester City.
Jose Mourinho was the manager accused of both departures. Per Talksport, he clarified the situation and claimed the players left because they couldn't wait and wanted to go.
Fabregas explains Salah's situation
Spanish midfielder, Fabregas was at Chelsea when both players left the club and explained why the Egyptian failed at Stamford Bridge on the BBC Planet Premier League podcast, via Sportskeeda.
"He was not so prolific in front of goal. Maybe it was a lack of chances. You could see his trends. You could see he was quick. You could see that he was attacking the spaces. But then, when he had one against ones, maybe he was not as strong as he is now," he said.
The statement may have been true during the winger's time in Blue, but prolificacy is Salah's best attribute at the moment as he finds a way to get on the score sheet even if he is having a bad game.
He has contributed to 292 goals in 332 games for Liverpool - 204 goals and 88 assists. He is in the top 10 all-time scorers for the club, surpassing the legendary Michael Owen.
