  • Rui Vitoria is confident Egypt can bag a win against Ghana
  • The Pharaohs and the Black Stars are set to clash on Thursday
  • Both teams need a win to keep alive their AFCON knockout hopes

Egypt coach Rui Vitoria has disclosed he will be making changes to his team ahead of their crunch encounter against West African giants Ghana in their second Group B game.

The Pharaohs, who needed a last-minute Mohamed Salah penalty to rescue a point against Mozambique, must avoid defeat against the Black Stars to keep their hopes of qualifying to the Round of 16 alive.

According to KingFut, Vitoria is feeling confident Egypt will defeat Ghana but has urged his players not to make any mistakes against the four-time African champions.

“We need commitment to our plans and strength in tackles. There were tough moments in the last match, and we must steer clear of the mistakes we made to win against Ghana.
“All teams are strong and evolving, but we are ready for tomorrow’s match, and we will fight for the win. I have confidence in my team.”

The game will be a must-win for both teams, particularly the Black Stars, whose defeat may see them eliminated early in the group stages.

Kuuku Dadzie calls for patience

Meanwhile, Former Black Stars captain James Kuuku Dadzie has urged fans to show their full support for Ghana's senior national team as they face Egypt on Thursday, All Africa reports.

Dadzie, who also coached Ghana’s male and female youth teams, said the four-time AFCON champions would need the support of the nation more than before to progress in the tournament.

Ghana will look to get its campaign back on track on Thursday after losing 2-1 to Cape Verde at the Félix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan on Sunday, January 14.

Kudus gives struggling Ghana boost

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Ghana could have top player Mohammed Kudus available for selection in their crucial encounter against Egypt, as the West Ham forward is currently back in full training.

The 23-year-old winger missed the Black Stars' unexpected loss to Cape Verde in their first Group B game of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations after arriving at the team's camp in Ivory Coast with a knock.
