  • West Ham manager David Moyes has reacted to Mohammed Kudus' absence
  • The Ghana international missed the game against Brighton on Tuesday night
  • Kudus is expected to join the Black Stars team for 2023 AFCON preparations

West Ham United manager, David Moyes has expressed disappointment after Mohammed Kudus was not allowed to feature in the Premier League game against Brighton and Hove Albion.

The 23-year-old was named in Ghana's final squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and was expected to report to camp on Tuesday, the same day as the Brighton game.

Kudus was unable to feature for the Hammers after the Ghana FA requested his release for camping and he was later reported to be struggling with a minor injury.

After the goalless draw at the London Olympic Stadium, Moyes felt the Black Stars forward could have been offered the opportunity to make his last appearance before leaving for Ghana.

"It’s been a fair programme for this time of year for what it could be, but our programme before that wasn’t overly fair. You could argue about fairness in terms of not being able to play Mohammed Kudus or Nayef Aguerd tonight, but other teams could play their African players," he said during the post-match interview.

Kudus has been in fine form for the Hammers since joining the club from Ajax in the summer transfer window. He has already netted ten goals for the English team, per Transfermarkt.

Partey dropped as Kudus makes Ghana squad

In news related to the Black Stars, Sports Brief previously reported that Arsenal midfielder, Thomas Partey has been dropped from Ghana's squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

The 30-year-old, who is recovering from an injury he sustained in October last year, failed to return to full fitness for the tournament in what will be a huge blow for the four-time African champions.

Sports Brief also previously reported that AFCON 2023 is almost here as the 24 qualified countries prepare their teams for the tournament in Ivory Coast.

The prestigious continental competition has in the past unearthed new talents while also giving others an opportunity to shine for their respective countries.

Senegal defied all odds to win the competition in Cameroon, with the likes of Nampalys Mendy and Abdou-Lakhad Diallao winning in their debut AFCON.
