Paulo Dybala bid farewell to Jose Mourinho after the Portuguese was sacked with immediate effect by Roma.

Mourinho couldn't replicate that success in securing Champions League qualification during his two full seasons despite guiding the Giallorossi to Europa Conference League glory in 2022.

Expected to leave at the end of the season, recent setbacks, including a Coppa Italia defeat and a loss to AC Milan, led to Mourinho's premature departure, with Roma sitting in ninth place in Serie A.

Having scored 24 goals in 56 appearances under Mourinho at Roma, Dybala joined the Giallorossi on a free transfer in 2022, during Mourinho's second season at the Stadio Olimpico.

In an Instagram post, the Argentine dedicated a farewell message to the technician that motivated him to join Roma in the summer of 2022.

“Thanks mister! Thank you for everything.. working with you was a huge pleasure,” wrote the Argentine forward.
“Thank you for your advice and every word you gave me. I wish you and your staff all the best. I hope we’ll see you again soon!”

While Dybala is under contract at the Stadio Olimpico until June 2025, a €13m clause is applicable for clubs outside Serie A, with Italian clubs able to acquire him by paying a €20m transfer fee.

Roma, however, hold the authority to prevent Dybala's transfer to another Serie A club by presenting him with a contract extension accompanied by a salary increase.

Currently sidelined due to a muscle injury, Dybala was absent from the recent Serie A match against Milan at San Siro. The question of his availability for the upcoming game against Hellas Verona on Saturday, under the management of Daniele De Rossi in his debut match for the Giallorossi, remains uncertain.

Roma names new coach

In the meantime, Roma swiftly announced the appointment of former captain Daniele De Rossi as the new head coach, per the Mirror.

The 40-year-old will lead the team until the end of the season, making his managerial debut in the upcoming clash against Verona this weekend, per the Mirror.

AS Roma sack Jose Mourinho

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Italian giants AS Roma have sacked Jose Mourinho after two-and-a-half years in charge of the club.

The former Chelsea gaffer had a difficult start to the new campaign, with AS Roma sitting ninth on the table after 20 matches.

Mourinho won the Europa Conference League in his first season before reaching the final of the Europa League the following campaign.
