Jose Mourinho's tenure at Roma turned out to be short-lived, as the seasoned manager faced an abrupt end to his stint with the Serie A club.

The 60-year-old departs the Rome-based side amidst a challenging period, with his former team managing to secure just one victory in their last six league matches.

Despite an initial triumph in the Europa Conference League during his debut season and guiding the team to a second consecutive European final a year later, they fell short in the Europa League, succumbing to Sevilla on that occasion.

Boasting an impressive resume that includes two Champions League victories, league titles in Portugal, England, Spain, and Italy, as well as numerous domestic cup successes, Mourinho is expected to swiftly find a new coaching role.

Sports Brief has compiled a list of six potential clubs that may consider hiring the Special One now that he is available in the market.

5 clubs that could hire Mourinho

FC Porto

The ideal destination for the 60-year-old would be the club where his managerial journey truly began. Following a short stint at Benfica and about a year with União de Leiria, Mourinho joined Porto in 2002.

By 2004, he had secured two league titles, the UEFA Cup, and notably, the Champions League, along with two additional domestic cups.

Porto, currently vying for a third league title, finished second last season. If Sergio Conceicao departs, especially considering his link to the Inter job in 2023, Mourinho would be an evident candidate for replacement.

Barcelona

In the scenario where Xavi Hernandez is dismissed as the head coach, Mourinho's agent, Jorge Mendes, has proposed his client to Joan Laporta, a close associate and the president of Barcelona, according to El Nacional.

Mendes, who has ties to Laporta and represents Barcelona players like Joao Felix, Joao Cancelo, Alejandro Balde, and Lamine Yamal, is said to have extended an offer of the Special One's services to the Blaugrana.

Saudi Arabia

Given Mourinho's status as an ageing football legend possibly past his prime, a logical move for him could align with the paths taken by Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar to the Saudi Pro League.

If he expresses interest in a Middle East move, several clubs in the region would likely eagerly welcome the opportunity to have such a prominent name contribute to their project.

Newcastle

A plausible English football destination for Mourinho could be St James' Park, where Newcastle United, under Eddie Howe's management, exceeded expectations last season but has encountered challenges this term.

Despite qualifying for the Champions League, they swiftly exited Europe, finishing last in a challenging group. Their domestic performance is also lacklustre, currently standing at 10th in the league with just seven Premier League games played.

Chelsea

When discussing Mourinho's potential new job, Chelsea inevitably comes to mind. His remarkable success with the Blues includes three Premier League titles, two FA Cups, three League Cups, and a Community Shield across two different stints.

Despite the recent decline in the club's form under Todd Boehly's ownership and Mauricio Pochettino's less-than-impressive start as the current boss, the tumultuous nature of the new ownership leaves room for speculation.

It wouldn't be imprudent to consider the possibility of Mourinho making a return, given the club's recent struggles.

Crystal Palace

Several times in his career, the Special One has expressed admiration for Crystal Palace fans and highlighted the fantastic atmosphere at Selhurst Park, the Mirror reported.

Additionally, ongoing speculation about Roy Hodgson's future suggests a potential vacancy at Selhurst Park in the near future. It certainly promises to be an interesting prospect.

How Roma players discovered Mourinho's sacking

Sports Brief recently reported on how Roma players found out that Mourinho was getting sacked.

Owner Dan Friedkin travelled to Italy to personally inform Mourinho and the players of the dismissal. Daniele De Rossi is now the club's new manager.
