  • Bandari Football Club are set to introduce nine new players to the squad
  • The Mombasa-based club are currently fourth in the FKF Premier League table
  • The notable inclusions are former KCB and Harambee Stars keeper Bryne Omondi

Football Kenya Federation Premier League side Bandari Football Club are set to unveil nine new players, aiming to strengthen their packed squad for a shot at their first-ever league title.

The club's management has scheduled the announcement for Wednesday, January 17, 2024, following a friendly game against Jomvu Combined at the home ground, the Mbaraki Grounds in Mombasa.

Among the notable additions are Harambee Stars goalkeeper Bryne Omondi (formerly of KCB).

Omondi parted ways with the Bankers during the ongoing transfer window.

As reported by Citizen Sports, also joining the squad are strikers Francis Kahiro from KCB, Mohammed Barisa from Nzoia Sugar, and Rashid Abdalla, Super Cup's Most Valuable Player, who has been training with the team since December 2023.

To address the void left by injured players, the Dockers are also set to promote some of their promising youth team players.

These changes come on the heels of the club's recent 0-0 draw with Kakamega Homeboyz in their last league fixture at Bukhungu Stadium on Saturday, January 13, 2024.

The draw maintained Homeboyz’s sixth place on the log, while Bandari dropped to fourth with 30 points from 18 matches, trailing leaders Gor Mahia by 10 points.

Last year, former FKF President Sam Nyamweya urged Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba to resolve the conflict between FKF and Bandari FC.

The dispute revolved around the club's participation in the annual Mapinduzi Cup staged in Zanzibar, with the Federation expressing concerns about potential disruptions to the smooth running of the league.

“This is a spat in the face of the East African Community's call for integration. We call upon the ministry to address the issue and allow the team to participate in the tournament," Nyamweya said, as quoted by KBC.

Gor Mahia still unbeaten

Sports Brief reported when Gor Mahia beat Kariobangi Sharks to extend their unbeaten streak to 18 this season.

K’Ogalo secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Saturday, January 13, 2024.

They will now face third-placed Tusker FC, also in fine form.
