Angola showed they belong in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, holding former champions Algeria to a 1-1 draw in their Group D showdown on Monday night.
The Angolans were given a lifeline after Algeria’s Nabil Bentaleb committed a foul inside the penalty area.
Mabululu stepped up for the Palancas Negras, scoring a penalty in the 68th minute for the equaliser.
Fans praise Mabululu after heroics
Fans took to social media to praise Mabululu, not only for his well-taken penalty but also for the ensuing celebration.
The 31-year-old was a picture of concentration as he took the penalty. He blasted his spot kick into the underside of the crossbar with his thunderous effort bouncing down over the line.
He made sure the goal was his, putting the ball into the back of the net after it went out because of the spin.
Mabululu copies Bafetimbi Gomis' celebration
Mabululu celebrated like crazy, copying the one used by Bafetimbi Gomis before. He fell to his knees and crawled like a lion on the prowl.
Fans were quick to point out the similarities of Mabululu and Gomis’ celebrations on social media platform X.
@Keigee6 wrote: “Mabululu does the Bafetimbi Gomis celebration after equalizing for Angola against Algeria. Lion indeed.”
Opeyemi Imoru wrote that Mabululu’s celebration reminded him of Gomis’ iconic celebration in the Premier League.
Michael Ajao wrote that Mabululu hitting the Gomis celebration is hilarious and his style of play is so Gomis-coded.
