FootballLamine Camara: Fans React to Senegal Youngster’s AFCON Debut Against in 3:0 Win Over Gambia
- Senegal opened their title defence with a 3-0 win over the Gambia
- Youngster Lamine Camara scored twice for the defending champions
- Fans on social media are raving about the 20-year-old’s performance
Youngster Lamine Camara is the star of the afternoon as defending champions Senegal strolled to a 3-0 win over neighbours The Gambia in the opening fixture of Group C.
Senegal came into the tournament as one of the favourites and hopes to be the third side to retain their title after Cameroon in 2000 and 2002 and Egypt in 2006, 2008 and 2010.
It took four minutes into the first half before the Teranga Lions took the lead through Papa Gueye off an assist from star man and newly-married Sadio Mane.
Two second-half goals from Camara, including a cracking one-time effort from outside the box, wrapped up the win for the West African country against their neighbours, handing them their biggest AFCON defeat.
Fans react to Camara’s performance
Camara was the best player at the African Nations Championship (CHAN) and the U20 Africa Cup of Nations, both of which were won by Senegal.
He was trusted to start on his AFCON debut by head coach Aliou Cisse, and he repaid the faith with two goals and a brilliant performance, which has drawn praise from the fans after winning the man of the match.
