Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has shared his thoughts about the goalkeeping issues ahead of Nigeria's Africa Cup of Nations first game against Equatorial Guinea.

The three-time African champions will face the National Thunder at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium on Sunday, January 14.

One primary discourse Nigerian fans raised before the tournament was the issues around the goalkeeping department.

Nigeria have struggled to find an excellent shot-stopper to man the goal since the retirement of Vincent Enyeama.

Ahead of the Super Eagles' first game at the 2023 AFCON, Musa discussed the issue during the press conference, according to a report by iDiskiTimes.

"I think our goalkeepers are one of the best. It is like saying to friends your home country's food is not good," he said.

The former Leicester City forward also had this to say about the team's criticism on social media.

"I am not a kid, and I don't worry about what people say on social media. I had a meeting with the players saying they need to be ready for what is said on social media – they [fans] don't understand what we go through."

Ideye calls for reduced expectations in AFCON

Sports Brief also reported that former Super Eagles striker Brown Ideye has called for less expectations amid the growing injuries faced by the Nigerian squad for AFCON 2023.

The former Nigerian national team striker took to his handle on X to air his views on what is looking to be an injury-ravaged campaign for the West African nation.

The three-time African champions are currently with only one fit centre-forward ahead of their first game in the competition against Equatorial Guinea, but Paul Onuachu and Terem Moffi have been called up to join the team.
