FootballFrank Lampard: Chelsea Legend Spotted at Stamford Bridge As Pressure Mounts on Pochettino
- Chelsea legend Frank Lampard is at Stamford Bridge for the game against Fulham
- Lampard has managed Chelsea twice, including an interim role at the end of last season
- His appearance is suggestive due to pressure on Mauricio Pochettino to get results
Chelsea legend and former manager Frank Lampard is at Stamford Bridge today to see the crunch home game against West London opponents Fulham.
Chelsea finally have the opportunity to leave the 10th position if they score a victory over their down-street neighbours, which could ease pressure on Mauricio Pochettino.
Per BBC Sports via Absolute Chelsea, the Blues have not lost at home to Fulham since 1979, a record which adds extra importance to the game as Pochettino cannot afford to break another negative record.
A European place finish is still very possible for the team while they also aim to win a trophy as they are still in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, in which they have reached the semifinal.
Lampard spotted at Stamford Bridge
As noted by CBS journalist Ben Jacobs, Lampard is in the director box with co-sporting Laurence Stewart, his first appearance at the stadium since the final game of lady season.
The last time he was at Stamford Bridge in a similar situation was Chelsea's 0-0 draw against Liverpool in April 2023, coached by Bruno Saltor after Graham Potter was sacked.
The all-time top scorer with 211 goals was handed the interim role days after, which made fans think such a scenario could happen again with pressure building on Pochettino.
The 1-0 loss to Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium in the first leg of the Carabao Cup has heightened pressure around the former Tottenham boss, and though the bosses back him, results need to favour him.
Fans react to Silva's message to Mount
Sports Brief reported on fans' reaction to Thiago Silva's message to Mason Mount on the former Blues’s 25th birthday during the week. The veteran’s post displeased the fans.
Mount left Chelsea to join Manchester United in the summer after contract talks broke down. Fans were fuming at him for joining a rival. He debuted in 2019 in Lampard’s first spell.
