Sadio Mane has been criticized, following his marriage to his wife, Aisha Tamba, but the bride’s father has opened up about the union and how it came about.

The Al-Nassr star, in the days leading up to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, married his 18-year-old partner at a private ceremony in his native Senegal.

There have been debates around how old the bride is, with the majority claiming she is 18, while others refuted and claimed she is 26.

Per Business Day, the former Liverpool forward was accused of grooming a minor by fans on social media after it emerged he had known his bride since she was 16.

Tamba’s father confirms her age

Amadou Timba, Aisha’s father, shed light on the controversy in an interview with Univers Info TV after the wedding, which took place in his house.

“My wife and Aisha visited their family one day, and this is where he met her for the first time. He probably saw something special in her, and his parents appreciated her as well,” he said.

“They came to see me. We discussed as per the tradition, agreed on everything and waited for this day to happen. They were not dating because Aisha was still young. She is 18, and the first time Mane saw her was more than two years ago.”

The 31-year-old had known Amadou for a longer time as he is the contractor in charge of his projects in his hometown.

He would not have time for a honeymoon as he is already with the Senegal national team seeking to defend their AFCON title in Ivory Coast.
