  • Chelsea survived a late scare to win 3-2 away at Luton Town
  • The Blues nearly threw away a three-goal lead in the closing stages
  • Veteran defender Thiago Silva was visibly frustrated at full-time

Chelsea survived a late charge from Luton Town to win 3-2 at Kenilworth Road, and one of their players could not hide his frustration at the final whistle.

The Blues took on the newly promoted in their final game of the year and convincingly raced to a 3-0 lead – with two goals in the first half and a third in the second.

Cole Palmer scored twice and assisted Noni Madueke, who continued his redemption with two goals in two Premier League games before the team got comfortable.

Former Blue Ross Barkley pulled one back for the hosts before Elijah Adebayo added a second. It took a goal-line clearance from Thiago Silva and a brilliant tackle from Alfie Gilchrist to preserve the lead.

Thiago Silva expresses frustration

As picked up by TNT Sports cameras, the Brazilian veteran was seen shaking his head at full time and ordering the cameras away from himself while talking to his teammates.

He was obviously frustrated with how the team lost control and almost threw away a convincing victory, exemplifying his mentality and pity for the sorrowful state of the group.

Head coach Mauricio Pochettino was quizzed about the 39-year-old’s gesture, and he had the following to say:

“Thiago is like this. Always moaning and never happy - but that's good! He's 39 and still playing. I think sometimes we are there on the pitch, but sometimes it was the small details...”

Silva will be out of contract at the end of the season, and it looks more likely he will depart the club after four years, with the hierarchy willing to go a different direction.

Thiago Silva hits back at a fan

Sports Brief previously reported on Thiago Silva responding to a fan for scapegoating him after the Blues lost 1-0 at home to Nottingham Forest in September.

The fan asked that the veteran be dropped, and he responded on Instagram that he would accept being dropped if he was one of the underperforming players on the team.
