  • Andre Onana will take on Tottenham Hotspur before departing for the Ivory Coast

  • He could miss as many as four games for United if the Lions make the AFCON final

Andre Onana isn’t in a hurry to join his Cameroon teammates for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Manchester United goalkeeper reportedly will play in the Red Devils’ Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur on January 14 before flying to the Ivory Coast.

Sports Brief examines the scenario where he does not miss any games for United during his AFCON stint with the Indomitable Lions.

Given the tight schedule between United's Premier League game against Spurs and Cameroon's match against Guinea, Onana will reportedly miss the Indomitable Lions' Group C opener.

According to ESPN, the Cameroon Football Federation has accepted the keeper is unlikely to be available for the game against Guinea on January 15, as he will appear for the Red Devils in the Premier League 24 hours earlier.

Cameroon and Onana will be hoping this decision will not result in an early exit from this year's AFCON.

The shot-stopper will start for the Indomitable Lions in the games against defending champions, Senegal, on January 19 and the Gambia on January 23.

How Onana could miss no United games

If Cameroon fails to qualify for the knockout stage, Manchester United will have their starting goalkeeper in time for their next match, per Manchester Evening News.

Their upcoming fourth-round game in the FA Cup is set to take place on January 27.
