  • Jose Mourinho has a reputation as the manager who sold Kevin De Bruyne
  • The Portuguese manager is also blamed for allowing Mo Salah to leave Chelsea
  • De Bruyne has opened up on his relationship with the Portuguese manager

Jose Mourinho and Kevin De Bruyne did not enjoy the best relationship during their short time together at Chelsea, as previously disclosed by the player.

Mourinho is faulted for the departures of De Bruyne and Mohamed Salah, who have become big stars at rival clubs, Manchester City and Liverpool, respectively.

KDB joined Manchester City after a successful time with Belgian club Wolfsburg, while Salah had spells at Italian clubs Fiorentina and AS Roma before arriving at Liverpool.

Per Goal, the manager absolved himself of blame for the departure of both players, claiming they were difficult decisions taken by the club and players.

De Bruyne’s relationship with Mourinho

Much was said about the relationship between the Portuguese manager and the Belgian star, but the player had previously clarified it to the Players’ Tribune in his episode in 2019.

“When I was at Chelsea, there was so much in the press about my relationship with José Mourinho. But the truth is that I only ever spoke to him twice,” he said.
“I arrived for pre-season, the vibe was good. I started two of the first four games of the season, and I thought I played O.K. Not brilliant, but pretty good. After the fourth game, that was it. I was on the bench, and I never really got a chance again. I didn’t get an explanation. I was just out of favour for some reason.”

It is hard for Chelsea fans to forgive Mourinho despite arguably being the best manager in their history, as Salah and KDB have been the top two players in the Premier League for many years now.

Mourinho’s side of the story

Sports Brief reported on Mourinho explaining why both players left Chelsea despite his insistence on pushing to have them as part of his team.

The Special One blamed their departures on a lack of patience to wait for their opportunities as youngsters.
