Kaizer Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo has hailed the AmaKhosi and the stakeholders for allowing Itumeleng Khune feature in the Carling Cup final against Stellenbosch FC.

The former South African international was included in the All-Star XI despite being suspended from club activities by Chiefs.

Khune was eventually allowed to play in the game after the Glamour Boys' leadership gave him the go-ahead, and he went on to win the Man of the Match award.

In a recent interview with SABC Sport, as per iDiskiTimes, Khumalo claimed that the AmaKhosi and stakeholders did great by allowing Khune to feature in the Carling Black Label Cup final.

"I think we have to thank all the stakeholders, including Kaizer Chiefs, for allowing him to play, regardless of his suspension," he said.
"Because he would not be playing if they did not say yes, and thanks to Carling and the PSL."

The former Kaizer Chiefs player also acknowledged the input of the supporters in voting Khune into the All-Star XI, and claimed that they are one of the reasons why the goalkeeper is R100,000 richer.

“Here is a boy who given an opportunity, today he is R100,000 richer. And thanks to the supporters.

Khune eyes Bafana return despite AFCON snub

Sports Brief previously reported that the Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune wants a return to the Bafana Bafana despite being snubbed by Hugo Broos in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations squad,

The South African shot-stopper claimed that he draws his story from multiple Ballon d'Or winners Cristiano Ronaldo and his rival Lionel Messi.

Khune stated that he will continue to play into his 40s, drawing inspiration from Italian legendary goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, who played at the top even at age 45.
