  • Patrick Bamford scored a worldie for Leeds United in the FA Cup
  • Leeds United beat Peterborough United to reach the fourth round
  • It was not the first time English football has seen bangers this season

Patrick Bamford is the man of the moment after scoring an absolute worldie for Leeds United in their 3-0 win over Peterborough United in the third round of the FA Cup.

It was not the first time English football has seen some cracking goals this season, be it in the league or the domestic cup competitions – the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

Sports Brief looks at five of the cracking goals in England this season.

Top goals in England this season

1. Patrick Bamford vs Peterborough

Bamford received an over-the-defence pass and controlled it beautifully with his chest before unleashing a ferocious strike that left the goalkeeper with no chance to double Leeds’ advantage a few minutes into the second half. Not many footballers would maintain a composed celebration after that.

2. Alejandro Garnacho vs Everton

Garnacho has scored arguably the best goal in the Premier League this season. He opened the scoring for Manchester United against Everton with a brilliant overhead kick off the cross from Diogo Dalot. The goal was reminiscent of Wayne Rooney’s against Manchester City.

3. Mykhailo Mudryk vs Arsenal

There is still a debate on whether he intended to cross or shoot even though he claimed it was shot but take nothing away from Mudryk’s goal against the club that courted him for months. He saw David Raya off his line and launched it over him with his left foot.

4. Dominik Szoboszlai vs West Ham

The Hungarian midfielder scored a cracker for Liverpool in the Carabao Cup against West Ham. The goal was named the best of the round for the quarter-finals.

5. Bruno Fernandes vs Burnley

Manchester United needed their captain to step up and rescue vital three points against newly-promoted Burnley, and he did just that. Veteran defender Jonny Evans launched a forward pass, and the Portuguese magnifico volleyed it home.

6. Alexis Mac Allister vs Fulham

There is no better way to score your first goal for your new club than a long ranger, one to remember. World Cup winner Mac Allister scored from 30 yards during Liverpool’s 4-3 win over Fulham.

Five assists better than the goal

Sports Brief previously analysed five assists better than the goal after Victor Osimhen’s assist to Khvicha Kvaratskhelia for Napoli against Cagliari.

The reigning African Footballer of the Year controlled the ball multiple times with his head and knee before laying a pass to the Georgian winger to score.
