The Carling Black Label All-Stars team managed a 2-1 win over Stellenbosch FC on Saturday evening to win the Carling Cup title in style.

Led by Mfundo Vilakazi of Kaizer Chiefs and Ashley du Preez, All-Stars won the pulsating and entertaining encounter in style.

Stellenbosch stars missed out on the huge cash, having missed several begging chances during the encounter at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

iDiski Times reports that goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune walked away with R185,000 in total after the massive fixture.

It was gathered that all members of the All-Stars squad, including the technical crew, would split the R2 million in prize money, which stands at R60,000 each.

Members of the Stellenbosch side will walk away with R30,000 each.

Added to that, the Fak’ iGoal Uzobona competition, in which Mfundo Vilakazi’s fourth-minute strike secured a pool of R894,000, saw them split a further R25,000 each.

The man-of-the-match performance by Khune earned him another R100,000 as the 36-year-old produced a spectacular during the encounter.

In total, this season's prize pool amounts to over R16 million for all the clubs that participated in the tournament.

It excludes the money given out to the Man of the Match winners, who each received R100,000, with Iqraam Rayners walking away with R400,000 for four Man of the Match awards.

Khune eyes Bafana Bafana return

Sports Brief earlier reported that South African goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune said that he draws his story from multiple Ballon d'Or winners Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The 36-year-old was not included in Hugo Broos' squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Khune stated that he will continue to play into his 40s, drawing inspiration from Italian legend Gianluigi Buffon, who played at the top even at age 45.
