Juventus has announced the signing of Super Falcons goalscoring midfield sensation Jennifer Onyi Echegini after her collegiate career at Florida State’s Seminoles.
The 22-year-old has had an excellent time at the United States of America's NCAA club side and will now pursue her career in Europe following the end of her collegiate career.
According to Juventus, Echegini was born in the Netherlands and raised in London, England, but she opted to play football for the Super Falcons of Nigeria after she was called up to the national team by former coach Randy Waldrum.
The 22-year-old, who featured at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup for Nigeria, has established herself as one of the best young midfielders in the country, signed a contract with the Italians until 30 June 2026, and will wear the number 26 shirt.
Echegini netted 27 goals in 44 matches for Florida State Seminole en route to making the team of the season and picking up one of the top awards in women’s soccer in the United States before completing his switch to Juventus.
Echegini makes history with Juventus move
Meanwhile, Super Falcons player Jennifer Onyi Echegini has entered this history book as the first Nigerian to play for Juventus following the completion of her deal to join the Italian giants, Soccernet reports.
The 22-year-old attacking midfielder, who has eight caps for the Nigerian National team, completed her switch to the Juventus women's team on Thursday, January 4, from Florida State’s Seminoles.
Echegini’s transfer to Juventus was scheduled to take place last summer but stalled due to her education.
Super Falcons wins CAF award
Earlier, Sports Brief reported that the Super Falcons have been named the Women’s Team of the Year at the CAF 2023 Awards off the back of an impressive showing at the World Cup earlier in the year.
