The African Cup of Nations (AFCON) is set to herald the football scenes across the continent in the coming weeks.
A host of teams will be slugging it out in Ivory Coast in what will be the 34th edition of the biennial football tournament.
Amongst the teams favoured to leave their mark and possibly clinch the title are Nigeria’s Super Eagles.
The three-time Nations Cup winners are highly tipped to go all the way, largely due to the array of attacking talents posed by the team.
While it appears that the Super Eagles look poised to go all the way, it seems like the ultimate leveller in football — injuries are ravaging Jose Peseiro’s team.

FootballJust days after it was confirmed forward Kelechi Iheanacho had suffered a muscular injury that could possibly hamper him from partaking at the AFCON, a report of another midfielder suffering another injury as emerged.
According to reports from BBC journalist Owynn Palmer-Atkin, Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi sustained an injury a few weeks before the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Ndidi missed the Foxes Sky Bet Championship 4-1 home win against Huddersfield Town at the King Power Stadium.
Taking to social media, Palmer-Atkin posted:
“Enzo Maresca tells me that Wilfred Ndidi has picked up an injury. That’s why he was absent today.”
“Both Ndidi and Iheanacho are set to join up with Nigeria tomorrow. Enzo stressed that neither are currently fit enough to play.”
This injury report adds to the concerns already faced by the Super Eagles, particularly regarding defensive vulnerabilities.
Despite the worries, Super Eagles fans remain optimistic that Ndidi will recover in time for the tournament's first match against Equatorial Guinea on January 14.
