  • Moroka Swallows failed to honour two DStv Premiership fixtures after a dispute with management
  • Chairman David Mogashoa claimed the players were demanding their December bonuses
  • The club have charged the striking players with bringing the league into disrepute

Moroka Swallows will begin 2024 in a state of turmoil.

A financial argument between players and management has seen The Dube Birds pull out of their last two DStv Premiership fixtures, much to the concern of all involved.

Fortunately for the club, a six-week AFCON break may give them an opportunity to rectify the mess but the repercussions will still be felt down the line.

The chaos at Swallows has put a dampener on the festive cheer of Swallows Chairman, David Mogashoa.

Players claim to not have been paid but Mogashoa has stated that they wanted to be paid early, something that the club is not obligated to do. A disgruntled Chairman told TimesLive:

“These players are holding the club at ransom,” they will be paid on the last day of every month. That is in black and white in their contracts."

The punishment looming for Swallows can range from a large fine, a points penalty or possible expulsion from the league.

A member of the Premier Soccer League committee confirmed that The Dube Bird will face some form of punishment. Speaking to KickOff, Professor Ronnie Schloss said:

"This will be referred to the disciplinary committee and they will be charged."

The club has taken their frustration out on the players, handing them misconduct notices. As reported by SABC Sport, the players have been charged by management for bringing the club and league into disrepute.
