According to Sky Sports, Rooney was appointed Birmingham City manager on a three-and-a-half-year deal back in October.

The former striker landed the role after he left his role as head coach of MLS side DC United by mutual agreement.

The Englishman arrived at St. Andrews at a time when the club were enjoying a fine run of form as they sat fifth, with an eye on promotion.

However, the Blues have gone on to hit a rough patch under Rooney, with the side currently placed 19th in the standings.

Rooney has managed just two wins in 13 games, with the latest outing ending in a 3-1 defeat at home against Stoke City, per BBC.
